Vision Insurance

UNC Charlotte offers vision coverage through the State's program NCFlex. EyeMed Vision administers this plan.

Core Wellness is available at no cost to all eligible employees if they enroll for coverage. It covers an annual eye exam for the employee with a $20 copy and includes discounts on materials.

Basic and Enhanced Plans allow you to cover dependents, include a comprehensive vision care plan, and provide a choice of glasses or contact lenses. 

EyeMed members can also save 15% off retail price or 5% off the promotional price of LASIK. More details and important documents are available on the NCFlex website.

Permanent, full-time employees who work 30+ hours per week are eligible for this plan.

Permanent, part-time employees working 20-29 hours per week are eligible for this plan.

Enrollment Deadline:  If you are newly eligible employee, or experience a qualifying life event, you must enroll 30 days from your eligibility date. If you are making elections during open enrollment, you must complete them within the designated enrollment period.

Effective Date of Coverage: Effective dates are based on the type of eligibility event.

• Newly eligible employees: First of the month following your eligibility date
• Qualifying event date: Reference the NCFlex website for plan-specific details
• Open enrollment: Jan. 1 following the open enrollment election period

EyeMed provides two ID cards in the subscriber’s name, but you aren’t required to have them at the time of service. If you lose your card or need extras for your family, you can print a replacement by creating an account at www.eyemed.com/NCFlex or downloading the EyeMed Members App (App Store or Google Play) to pull up a digital version anytime, anywhere. 

Deductions for this plan occur semi-monthly (month of coverage).
