HR implements changes to Student Employment Policy

Categories: General News

On-campus student employment provides opportunities for UNC Charlotte students to develop essential skills and real-world work experiences necessary to facilitate a smooth transition to the post-graduate workforce, earn income to offset the costs of student life and support daily operations of the University. Eligibility for campus student employment is determined by a student’s current enrollment status.

With the beginning of the fall 2022 term, on-campus student employees are now eligible to work up to 29 hours a week during the academic term depending on the assignment type, individual departmental needs and the necessary operating budget to support increased hours.

Additionally, the student employment orientation will be online through Canvas. New student employees will be required to complete this course after a campus job has been offered and accepted. This required course will provide information regarding policies, time-keeping, payroll and general student employment topics and shall be completed as a prerequisite to new hire documentation.

For more information regarding these changes and potential financial commitments associated with the student FICA exemption and the Affordable Healthcare Act, review the Student Employment PIM No. 15.
