NC State Health Plan Premiums for 2026

Human Resources is aware that employees may have received a member alert on Aug. 15 from the North Carolina State Health Plan for Teachers and State Employees regarding new premiums for 2026.

The premiums, approved by the State Health Plan Board of Trustees, appear to include increases for most members and a cost reduction for some members who cover children on their plan. Additionally, to lessen the financial burden on the state’s lowest paid active members, the Plan will be introducing salary-based premiums in 2026.

We are working to better understand the changes in premiums and will provide additional information as soon as we can. The open enrollment period for insurance benefits will be held October 13-31. Elected state health plan coverage will begin on Jan. 1, 2026, but paycheck deductions begin with the first December 2025 paycheck.
