April Edwards is the lead employee relations consultant managing the day-to-day functions. She assists employees with complaints, grievances and other workplace issues. Edwards aids supervisors with developing and issuing appropriate communications regarding performance expectations and feedback, including disciplinary actions. She helps all University employees with ADA Accommodations.
Prior to working for UNC Charlotte, Edwards worked for nearly a decade for the Charlotte Mecklenburg School (CMS) District, in its Human Resources (HR) Department. Edwards held several Human Resources positions, that provided support to instructional, non-instructional, and administrators leaders throughout the District.
Most notably her role provided guidance and training on how to effectively apply progressive discipline, and proper conflict resolution when addressing employee conduct and performance issues. Edwards worked collaboratively with CMS Legal Department, Title IV, District/Community Leaders and Superintendents, Local and State Representatives, Federal Agencies, CMS and County Police Departments, and other HR Personnel.
Her essential duties consisted of reviewing, interpreting, and enforcing district, state, and federal policies. Following compliance standards set forth by local, state, and federal laws. Conducting federal and state criminal background checks and I-9 employment verification. Handing exit interviews and capturing trending data. Leading internal workplace investigations and grievances governed by CMS personnel policies and regulations, CMS Board Policy, and NC Public School Law, including and not limited to Employment Law.
